What We Do
Community-led projects spanning pest control, weed management, native planting, bird monitoring, track maintenance and water care. We work alongside sponsors, councils and local volunteers to protect this special place.
Piroa Conservation Trust coordinates pest control, weed action and revegetation across 25,000 hectares of the Piroa-Brynderwyns — backed by local volunteers, landowners and schools.
Since Marunui Conservation began restoration work over 30 years ago, conservation in the Piroa-Brynderwyns has grown into a thriving community-led movement. Piroa Conservation Trust now coordinates funding and resources for dozens of groups working on predator control, weed management, water care and revegetation across the area.

Restoring 25,000 hectares is a big task — but we have an incredible network of volunteers, donors, sponsors and partners moving it forward. We’re always looking for new hands to help.
With pest control now active across much of the ranges, we’re tracking how kiwi are responding — where they are, whether they’re breeding, and how the population is changing.
Rats, stoats and possums are pushing native birds out. Together we can bring the bellbird and other natives back to Waipu village.
